H1N1 Vaccine & Seasonal Flu Vaccine Update
We have some extra doses of H1N1 FluMist and regular seasonal FluMist available at a discounted price of $20.00 each to healthy kids (>2 years) and parents (<50 years)
Please call for an appointment or ask the nurse/doctor at an upcoming visit.
You can schedule your child for the following H1N1 vaccines:
All our H1N1 vaccines are thiomersal free.
H1N1 shot for 0-35 month olds: 1st and 2nd doses available. Please make sure the doses are given at least one month apart.
H1N1 shot for 3 yrs and older : NOT AVAILABLE
H1N1 Nasal mist: 1st and 2nd doses available for healthy kids older than 2 years of age. The two doses need to be given at least a month apart. Two doses are needed for kids 9 years and younger.
H1N1 shot and nasal mist cost is $20.00 per dose (administrative charge) due at the time of visit. We don't file insurance for Flu vaccines.

SEASONAL FLU VACCINE:
Seasonal Flu shot: Please call our office regarding availability of seasonal Flu shot for 0-35 month old children. We expect a shipment sometime this week.
We don't have any seasonal Flu shots for kids older than 35 months old.
Seasonal nasal Flumist: Available for all healthy children older than 2 years old. Children receiving seasonal flu vaccine for the first time in their lives (9yr and younger) need two doses, a month apart for full protection against the Flu.
If your child has received MMR/Varivax or any other live vaccine in the past 30 days, They can not receive the Flumist.
WE DON'T FILE INSURANCE FOR FLU VACCINES AND PAYMENT IS EXPECTED AT TIME OF SERVICE.

UNDERSTANDING INFLUENZA (Seasonal and H1N1)
SYMPTOMS:

Fever, chills, body aches
-
Cough, sore throat, runny nose

Fatigue
-
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea
Mild to moderate symptoms may last
a few days to a week or so and may not require an office
visit.

Breathing Difficulties
-
Discoloration of lips
-
Persistent vomiting or dehydration, reduced urine out put

Dizziness when standing
-
Mental status changes, lethargy
-
Recurrence of fever after a 24 hour fever free period
Acetaminophen or Ibuprofen for fever and body aches
Guaifenesin (Mucinex) for congestion and cough
Stay well hydrated
NO ASPIRIN for children to avoid Reye's syndrome
Vaccination (Seasonal and H1NI vaccines)- check web site updates
Wash hands often or use alcohol
based sanitizer.
Cough or sneeze into a tissue or
sneeze into arm if tissue not available.
Avoid touching nose, eyes, and or
mouth.
Tamiflu or Relenza are reserved
for high risk and severe cases.
These medications work best when taken within the first two days of symptoms to reduce the severity and duration of the illness (usually by only one day)
Other Vaccine Update:
As of March 5, 2009, Department of State Health services is requiring the following vaccinations for children entering the following grades for the year 2009-10:
Meningococcal Vaccine (Menactra): 7th Grade
Varicella Vaccine (Varivax): 2 doses required for Kindergarten and 7th grade
Tdap Vaccine: 7th grade
MMR Vaccine: Kindergarten
Hepatitis A: 2 dose requirement for Kindergarten
Hospital Update:
Drs Ogden and Elhence will be seeing newborns and pediatric patients at the Medical Center of Lewisville. Dr Levy's patients can request Dr. Ogden or Dr. Elhence to see their newborn at the hospital.
Drs Ogden, Levy and Elhence will continue to see patients at the Baylor Medical Center in Carrollton. Drs Levy and Elhence also have privileges at Presbyterian Hospital of Plano and Dr Elhence has privileges at Baylor Regional Medical Center of Grapevine.
AFTER HOURS AND WEEKEND CHARGES
As of September 1, 2009, we will be charging patients $10.00 per phone call made for clinical advise to partially cover fees for this service. This charge will be billed to you directly with your next statement. This charge will not be filed with insurance.
