FLU VACCINES FOR 2011-2012

Nasal Flumist and injectable Flu shots for the 2011-2012 Flu season are available now. Currently, Flu activity has been described as sporadic in Texas. It's not too late to get your child vaccinated today.

Please call today to make an appointment. We offer Flu vaccines during regular office hours.

The current recommendation states that all kids 6 months to 18 years should receive Influenza vaccine annually.

There are two types of flu vaccines available for children:

  • Injection: TIV : Approved for kids 6 months and older. If your child is younger than 9 years of age and have never received a flu vaccine before, they will need 2 doses, 1 month apart. The cost for this vaccine is $25.00 for each dose.

  • Nasal Flu Vaccine: LAIV : Recommended for healthy kids 2 years and older. If your child is younger than 9 years of age and have never received a flu vaccine before, they will need 2 doses, 4 weeks apart. The cost for this vaccine is $40.00 for each dose.

WHY GET THE FLU VACCINE?
Influenza is a serious disease that can cause pneumonia, encephalitis and death in young children. Approximately 20,000 children are hospitalized for Influenza-related illnesses in the US each year, and 77% are under 5 years old. An average of 92 Influenza-associated deaths occur among children under 5 each year.

WE DON'T FILE INSURANCE FOR FLU VACCINES AND PAYMENT IS EXPECTED AT TIME OF SERVICE.

ANNUAL SPORTS AND WELLNESS CHECKS:

Even if you missed the window during the summer break, it's not too late to schedule your child's annual physical now. Every child after the age of 2 needs an annual well check.

HOSPITAL UPDATE:

All our physicians are now on staff at the new Presbyterian Hospital of Flower Mound. If you are planning to deliver your baby at this hospital, please let the hospital staff know that you would like to follow up with one of our physician's after discharge. The staff Neonatologist will take care of all babies born at Presbyterian Hospital of Flower Mound.

Medical Center of Lewisville is now staffed by Pediatric Hospitalists from Medical City of Dallas. They are trained to take care of your sick child in the hospital and also equipped to transport them in a timely manner for tertiary care at Medical City Children's hospital.

We now offer lactation services for our breast feeding moms. Please call and schedule your appointment with Karrie Stevenson, RN, Lactation Specialist today.

CONCUSSION EVALUATION AND TREATMENT:

Our office offers diagnosis, treatment and return to play (RTP) evaluation of patients with concussion. Under the new concussion guidelines, athletes are not permitted to play after a concussion unless cleared by a medical provider.
